SPECIAL EDUCATION FACILITATOR

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

 

  • Eligible for or possess Kansas Special Education Licensure
  • Graduate degree in Special Education or Related Field (preferred)
  • Minimum of Three years of experience in special education
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in State and Federal Regulations, Statues and Procedures 
  • Hold and maintain valid state driver's license 

 

REPORTS TO:   Director and Assistant Director

 

JOB GOAL: The goal of the Special Education Facilitator is to promote and support professional adherence to the legal requirements of state and federal regulations; to protect the procedural safeguards of students and their parents; to provide technical assistance to teachers and administrators regarding special education issues and concerns; and to assist with communication regarding special education topics. The Facilitator understands state standards and promotes evidence-based practices in the Least Restrictive Environment.

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS and ABILITIES:

 

  • Ability to possess and maintain appropriate licensure or certification in the State of Kansas.
  • Ability to speak clearly to various groups expressing ideas in a logical and concise manner and possess composition skills suitable for producing written communication for a variety of readers.
  • Ability to quickly analyze a situation and provide a prompt response or determine next steps.
  • Ability to respond to information requests in a courteous, timely and helpful manner.
  • Ability to manage job responsibilities while meeting established deadlines.
  • Ability to work constructively and cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to travel as needed.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Provide ongoing support to promote appropriate specially designed instruction and related services within the context of LRE
  • Provide feedback and training for staff related to IEP development and implementation
  • Provide specialized professional development to staff related to providing evidence based practice
  • Serve as a mentor for individual special education teachers 
  • Collaborate with staff to assess and address student needs
  • Consult with special education teams and principals on issues related to special education law and procedures and special education programing 
  • Collaborate with Special Education administrative staff regarding system-wide and targeted professional development needs
  • Maintain current knowledge of Special Education procedures and regulations
  • Facilitate IEP teams and other groups as needed
  • Coordinate special education building team meetings to facilitate communication between staff and Administration.
  • Member of TLEC Advisory Team (AdT)
  • Other duties as assigned by TLEC Administration 

  

Salary Range: Determined by placement on salary schedule
